| Banners, clickable ads that appear on Web sites,
can generate new traffic to your site. Once you have created a
banner, you're ready to advertise.
Steps:
1. Join a banner exchange, such as LinkExchange. With banner
exchange programs, you place banners for other Web sites on your
site, and your banner is placed on other sites. This service is
usually free.
2. Create your own banner exchange with a Web site related to
your business. For example, if your Web site sells bakeware,
contact the Webmaster of a cooking site for a possible banner
exchange.
3. Contact Web sites where you'd like to post a banner and
ask for their advertising rates. Although you may not be able to
afford banner space on a high-volume site such as Yahoo, smaller
companies and start-ups typically offer more reasonable rates.
4. Offer your banner on your Web site. Many Web sites have a
section called "Link to our Web site," offering a
small banner and the code to insert in a Web page.
Tips:
Read the Terms and Conditions for banner exchange sites
before agreeing to them.
Check out sites that use banner exchanges. E-mail the
Webmaster for feedback on how well the banner exchange works.
Conduct a Web search using the keywords "banner
exchange."
If your site has great content and provides a worthwhile
service, more sites will want to link to you. Keep that in mind.
